Milkwoods, Port Elizabeth

Developed by Own Haven Housing Association and contracted to WBHO, Milkwoods is a R250 million, 630-unit housing development on Port Elizabeth’s Victoria Drive. Named after the protected tree species found in the area, the striking new development is visually more akin to a small village than a social housing project. The estate is ultimately expected to accommodate more than 1,000 residents in a green environment. During construction, very little of the existing vegetation was removed, and the precious milkwood trees were avoided.

Gillian Ardendorff Architects specified Ironspot Clinker with a mix of plaster and paint.  Makana's clinker brick provides a unifying...

Upgrading of our Firing Technology

Energy being nearly 40% of our cost, management is continuously focusing on reducing this cost by upgrading our firing technology. Not only do we save on fuel, but assure less greenhouse gas emissions through improved combustion.

Two sets of burners were replaced with state-of -the -art burners from Bernini Impianti – Bologna, Italy. These burners were installed on zones 1 and 2 where we have the most fuel consumption. At a cost of nearly R 900’000.00, these new burners will improve the product yield, decrease our fuel consumption as well as reduce our greenhouse gas emissions significantly.

Algoa Brick is proud to announce that the installation in January 2017...
